The thinq LG V40 phone, the Sony-WH 1000XM3 headset and The Windows TV are some of the electronics chosen by the CES Innovation Awards as the best in their categories . The award is part of CES 2019, the electronics fair that took place last week in Las Vegas, in the United States, and recognizes the products that have excelled in design and engineering.
Each category has a judging team composed of an independent industrial designer, an independent engineer and a member of the specialized press. The evaluators give notes to the criteria «Engineering qualities» and «Aesthetic and design qualities» and the device with the highest score is chosen the winner. The following are the main winners of the awards in 2019.
1. Wireless device, accessories and service: LG V40 ThinQ
The name of the category seems confusing, but the chosen product is quite well known: the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone. Announced in October 2018, with two or three front and rear cameras, the device promises to be the first premium smartphone with five cameras. The main lenses of the cell phone have different resolutions and characteristics: there is a standard 12 MP, another 12 MP telephoto lens and the third is an ultra-angular 16 MP. On the front, there are 8 MP and 5 MP sensors.
The phone has a 6.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels, and is equipped with a Snapdragon 845 processor and dedicated Adreno 630 GPU. Regarding memory, it offers 64 GB or 128 GB of expandable internal storage Up to 2 TB with micro SD card, and 6 GB of RAM. Its 3,300 mAh battery is compatible with wireless charging and reaches 50% of the charge in 36 minutes. The LG V40 ThinQ is not yet available in Latin America, but can be found in the international market starting at US $ 900.
2. Headphone: Sony WH-1000XM3
The Sony WH-1000XM3 was the winner in terms of headphones. The accessory is described by the award site as the market leader in comfort, noise cancellation and sound quality . Able to support up to 30 hours of use, the headset allows integration with the cell phone through the Bluetooth connection and can perform a series of commands with some touches, such as answering and making calls, changing the band or volume or activating the voice assistant .
Thanks to Sense Engine technology, the device is able to adjust the sound settings according to the situations and the environment. Equipped with an amplifier integrated in the QN1 HD Noise Canceling Processor, the device can reproduce a full range of frequencies from 4 Hz to 40 kHz (and 2 Hz to 20 kHz via Bluetooth). The phone is available in Latin America since November and can be purchased for US $ 530.
Samsung’s MicroLED TV, called The Windows (or «The Window» in free translation), was chosen as the best on the screen. At the CES site, the device is presented as something that «redefines television», due to its image quality and differentiated design, capable of transforming surfaces and living spaces. The idea is that the screen be mounted according to the necessary size, adding the right amount of rectangles. Then, it is up to the combination of hardware and software of the South Korean brand to make the device work.
The manufacturer promises that TV video processing is capable, not only of sizing all content to the appropriate resolution and size, but also providing proportions that adjust the content to the screen. Thus, the images can escape the traditional widescreen standards of 16: 9 or 21: 9, reaching extreme options such as 32: 9 and even 1: 1.
4. Components and accessories home audio-video: Soundbar SL9YG
Another category in which LG was the winner, with its Soundbar SL9YG. The accessory, which is used to enhance the sound of televisions, won the prize for the whole of its technical sheet, which includes Meridian audio technology, Dolby Atmos / DTS-X 4.1.2 channel sound, AI artificial intelligence resources ThinQ and Google Assistant.
With minimalist design, the device can be left on top of the rack or fixed on the wall, together with the TV. In addition, the Soundbar is equipped with a gyroscope, which checks the position of the product (on the wall or on a flat surface) and adjusts the sound output according to that information.
5. Gaming: GeForce RTX 20-Series
Nvidia’s GeForce RTX-20 Series video card line was the winner of the category focused on computer games. According to the award, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and 2070 GPUs offer the ultimate experience in PC games. This is because the products gather artificial intelligence and ray-tracing technology for better gaming performance. The plate family even won a cheaper version at CES 2019, the RTX 2060.
6. Computer equipment and components: Lenovo Yoga Book C930
The first laptop in the world equipped with a double screen with e-Ink, the Lenovo Yoga Book C930 was the product that won in this category. With Windows 10 and the Intel Core processor, the superfine unit stood out for its excellent performance and long-lasting battery as strengths.
The digital ink screen (similar to the one present in electronic readers) offers three modes of use: Keyboard, notepad and reader. Like other Yoga models, one screen can be placed with its back to the other, without losing portability, since it is only 9.9 mm thick. The C930 includes 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, up to 256GB of SSD, two JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos and 7th generation Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor.

The spherical team equipped with six Insta360 Pro 2 HD cameras was the winner of the category . The device is capable of recording 360-degree videos with 8K quality, which can work on augmented reality devices, such as the Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Go. Using FarSight technology, which uses a dedicated transmitter and receiver, allows you to monitor an action at a distance of up to 300 m. Image stabilization is due to FlowState technology, which uses optical flow algorithms to smooth out unstable camera movements, and an ultra-precise gyroscope that tracks nine-axis movement. The price? «Only» 5,599 euros.
